Starting this week, I will write about toilets several times in a row.
The first thing that surprises foreigners is that Japanese private rooms have low walls that hide their feet.
In Europe and the U.S., there is a space between the door and the floor, so that you can see the foot of someone.
This Japanese toilet is confusing because it is hard to judge if someone is in the room or not.
However Japanese people are quite scared that someone can see their feet between wall and floor when they go to foreign countries.

なんといっても、外人お方が最初にびっくりしするのは日本の個室は壁が低く足元までかくれていることでしょう。
欧州、アメリカなどはドアと床に間があり、足が半分くらい見えています。
人が入っているかどうかわかりにくいので戸惑いますよね。
日本人は外国へ行って足が見えているのにかなり戸惑います。
