日本だけ横断歩道を渡る時に、手を上げますと書きました。他の国では手を上げては渡りません。
道で手を上げるのは
写真のようにタクシーを止める時です。
おもしろいのは、昔シンガポールの日本人小学校の交通教習で、「日本では横断歩道では手をあげましょう！でも、このシンガポールで手を上げるとタクシーが止まるのでやめましょう。」という説明があった時は思わず吹き出しました。

Out of Japan, you raise your hand on the street when you catch a taxi as shown in the picture.
When I was living in Singapore a long time ago, I got a funny story.
Japanese police had a traffic lesson at a Japanese elementary school in Singapore, they told, “In Japan, we should raise our hands when crossing a pedestrian crossing, but here in Singapore. We should not raise our hands when catching a taxi.”
So in Singapore and out of Japan, it is normal if you raise your hand, the cab will stop in front of you.
