Out of Japan, year end new year holidays are only 12/31 and 1/1.
Japanese holidays are 12/29,30,31 and 1/1-3, which are longer than overseas holidays. In addition, when Saturdays and Sundays are sometime added to the vacation period, the vacations can be as long as one week in a row. You hate going to work after the vacations.

海外の年末年始のお休みは12/31と1/1だけですが、日本ののお休みは12/29, 30,31と1/1-3で海外に比べると長いです。さらに土、日が引っ付くと1週間以上連続でお休みとかになります。休みの後会社に行くのが嫌になります。
