New Year’s Day in Japan is spent in a different way to the rest of the world, and is introduced here.

  1. New Year’s greetings are “Happy New Year.”
  2. Going to see the first sunrise of the year
  3. Drink OMIKI (=Sacred sake)
  4. Eat OSECHI (=New Year’s food)
  5. Eat OZONI (omochi in soup)
  6. Give OTOSHITAMA(=New Year’s money to children
  7. Check New Year’s cards

etc.?
