In Japan, 3rd Feb. is Setsubun.
As all Japanese know, it is a ritual to drive away illnesses and disasters that tend to occur at the turn of the season, by throwing beans at them as if they were ogres.
The beans are thrown to drive out the demons, saying “Fuku wa uchi, oni wa soto” meaning Luck inside the home, bad luck out of the home.
In the old days, people used to eat as many beans as the number of the age.
We also ate sushi rolls,
In addition, sardines are also eaten, I didn’t know that.
I didn’t know that there were other things to eat besides beans and sushi rolls!
There were lots of sardines on sale at the shops, so we bought some and ate them the next day.
