Rather than rugby, I’d like you to read about coach Eddie Jones.

Before I wrote about the books I’d like my children to read, this was the first book I read myself.

‘Coaching Is About Believing’

There were plenty of interesting points in this book, but:

  1. Whilst the Japanese tend to use their physique as an excuse for not winning, Australians also believe they are at a physical disadvantage when compared to players from New Zealand or South Africa.
However, they make up for this with an immense volume of training and strategic planning.
  2. As the title suggests,
    the difficulty of believing.
In the end, even though his own instructions were ignored, he believed in his players and achieved success.
The players had spent four years trusting their coach’s words, so they disregarded his final instructions and ultimately secured the highest honour.

One more book

‘Eddie Wars’
It tells the story of how, even when striving for lofty goals with conviction, the coach and the players he leads are constantly at odds with one another; yet, whilst suffering and clashing, they strove for greatness.

I strongly recommend these two books to company executives and managers.

There’s another book to follow next.
